Wolverines lose to Neepawa in last game of 2022

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines ended the 2022 portion of the season with a tough 7-4 loss to the Neepawa Titans.

The goal-filled game ended both team’s unofficial first half of the season.

The Wolverines got on the board first when Andrew Boucher got a rebound off a Carson Baptiste shot and beat the goaltender.

But Neepawa answered later in the period, with only 2:40 in the frame. Josh Romanyk received a pass from Carter McLeod to sneak it by to tie the game at 1.

In the second period, the Titans started out hot. In under two minutes of game time, Cody Gusnason, Will Highet and Cameron Trimble all got a goal to make it 4-1. The Titans got some fortunate bounces with the three goals, but had a good lead.

But the Wolverines came back with a couple of goals of their own.

Sean Williams made the takeaway to wire it past Mason Lobreau to make it a two goal game.

And right after, Caden Carlson made it a one goal game by gettingĀ  a quick shot off from a pass by Nolan Grier.

At the end of the 2nd, Neepawa led 4-3.

In the first couple of minutes in the 3rd, the Titans extended their lead when Hayden Stocks got his 15th of the season.

Then two and a half minutes later, it was Connor Thompson that made it 6-3 Titans.

Then the Wolverines got a powerplay, and pulled their goalie down three, but seconds after pulling it, Carter McLeod iced the puck down the ice for a goal to make it 7-3.

The Wolverines answered back with Nolan Grier scoring to make it 7-4.

But that’s the closest the Wolverines got in the contest.

Lobreau stopped 22 saves for the win, while Tresor Wotton stopped only 17 in the loss.

The Wolverines next game will now be on January 6th, when they start a back to back with the Swan Valley Stampeders in Swan River.
