Wolverines Host Oil Capitals Looking For Fourth Straight Win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines return to home ice on Saturday night to host the Virden Oil Capitals for the first of two preseason meetings,

Despite stringing together three straight preseason wins, Wolverines Head Coach & General Manager, Taylor Harnett said he doesn’t put too much stock into the preseason victories, but shared that it sure doesn’t hurt to win.

The Wolverines are fresh off of a 5-1 win over the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers on Thursday night, in a game that the Wolverines scored four unanswered goals in the third period.

In tonight’s matchup, the Wolverines will dress a pair of 2000-born goaltenders in Thomson Phinney and Adam Swan. Wolverines veterans, Jack Kennedy, Conrad Phillips, Gerrick Ripley, Austin Cardinal, and Ryley Cardinal will suit for the club on Saturday night. Rounding out the 19-year-old group is California native, Tyler Shetland.

Six, 2001-born Wolverines will be inserted into the roster including Logan Wotton, Cody Shearer, Reagan Rabbit, Keaton Mercredi, Tanner Clyne, and Danton L’Heureux.

Matthew McLeod, Cameron Trimble, Beau Kennedy, and local Cole Mentuck will round out the roster as the four 2002-born skaters will continue to try and make an impact in the preseason.

Last but not least, 2003-born Forward, Colby Wotton will also suit up for the Wolverines on Saturday.

For the Virden Oil Capitals, four 20-year-olds will take to the ice including team captain, Kolten Kanaski. Their remaining roster consists of three 2000s, four 2001’s, two 2002’s five 2003’s and one 2004-born.

Returning goaltender, Riley Wallace will also make an appearance in the Oil Capitals crease.

This will be Virden’s third preseason game with the club most recently coming off of a big 9-2 victory over the Winkler Flyers.
