Wolverines head to Winkler

After a big 4-1 win over the Winkler Flyers, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines will now head out on the road to take on the familiar foes, but this time in their own barn.

The Flyers will host the Wolverines at 3:00pm on Sunday at the Winkler Arena to finish off the home and home series, after an entertaining game on Friday.

The Wolverines flipped the script from their game earlier in the week, when they killed off eight penalties to escape with the win.

The 9th ranked penalty kill, which has been hit or miss all year, stood tall when they held on to a two goal lead throughout the third period, killing off four penalties in the final frame.

The big story of the game was the play of new Wolverines goalie Brett Mirwald, who stopped 31 shots in the game, and held the fort through the second period that saw Winkler never give up a shot for around 14 minutes to start the period.

With the loss, the Flyers were passed by the Winnipeg Blues for 2nd in the East Division. Meanwhile, the Wolverines are now three points back of Dauphin for 1st in the West.
