Wolverines get Bercier first win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines got back to their winning ways after beating the Winnipeg Freeze 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Mariko Bercier, playing in his first game as a Wolverines goaltender, got his first junior win, stopping 24 shots for the win.

The Wolverines started the scoring when Aidan Herring was able to hammer in a rebound for his fourth of the year.

The Freeze answered right back though when a 2-on-1 finished off with Ty Genik scoring his first goal of his junior career to tie it up at 1.

In the second, the Wolverines took the lead when Griffin Ayotte had his sixth of the season when he came in off the wing and was able to snipe it past Freeze goaltender Braxton Burdeny.

The Wolverines added insurance when Brock Behrend was able to beat Burdeny from the point on the powerplay.

The third period didn’t generate many chances on either side, and the Wolverines escaped with a 3-1 win.

Burdeny stopped 40 shots in the loss.

The Wolverines were 1/2 on the powerplay in the game, and killed off four penalties, including an almost two minute five on three in the second period.

The Wolverines will next travel to Virden on Sunday night to take on the Oil Capitals at 7:30pm.
