Wolverines get back in win column

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines got back to their winning ways with a solid 3-0 win over the Winnipeg Freeze.

Tresor Wotton won a goaltender battle against Keegan Gordon, with a 25 save shutout over the gritty Freeze team.

There was no scoring in the first, as both teams put nine shots on goal. Both teams came close, with the biggest save coming from Tresor Wotton in the early parts of the first period.

The second period, Carson Baptiste got his 25th of the season with a nice move that went around a few Freeze defenders and put it past Keegan Gordon. It was the only goal of the period and gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead into the third period.

Early on in the third, Leyton Smith pulled off  a nice move that ended with him going five hole on Gordon. That made it 2-0 Wolverines.

Kurt Rookes scored an empty netter at the end of the game to make it 3-0.

The Wolverines broke the three game losing streak and moved back in the first place in the West Division, but is tied with the OCN Blizzard and Swan Valley Stampeders.

The Wolverines next game is on Thursday when they host the Niverville Nighthawks at 7:30pm.
