Wolverines fall in Winkler

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines lost another tough game to the Winkler Flyers, losing 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The game was tight throughout, and the Wolverines ended up out shooting the flyers 41-35.

The Wolverines got the scoring started when Ben Roulette got a favourable bounce when a Winkler players swatted the puck into his own net. It was Roulette’s 16th of the season.

But the lead was short lived as the Flyers tied it up just fifteen seconds later when Mike Svenson got  tip on a point shot.

In the second, the Flyers scored 1:04 into the period, as Dalton Andrew scored his 24th of the season.

The Flyers scored to start the third period when Marek Miller got his second of the season.

The game turned on its head when halfway through the third Tanner George got called for kneeing after taking out Wolverines goaltender Kaiden Kirkwood with a knee to head shot. The play removed Kirkwood from the game and George was given a five minute major.

On the powerplay Sean Williams scored his 21st of the year, but they couldn’t get any other goal off the rest of the powerplay.

The Flyers added insurance with 3:37 left in the game when Nich McKee scored to make it 4-2.

Avery Anderson later scored on an empty net to make it 5-2.

The Wolverines drop their fourth straight against the Flyers this season, going 0-4 in the season series.

The Wolverines next game will be on Friday when they take on the Winnipeg Blues after the MJHL-SJHL Showcase.
