Wolverines eliminated after loss to Virden

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines were eliminated from the playoffs after a 2-1 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals on Tuesday Night.

Even while outshooting the Oil Caps 35-25, the team was unable to get a tying goal past Eric Reid in the final period.

In the first period, Joey Bielik scored on a powerplay, just ten seconds after Ben Roulette was given a double minor for spearing. Bielik was able to tip it past Marek Andres after a shot from the point by Trevor Hunt.

In the second period, the Oil Capitals gave themselves a two goal lead when Naton Miller was able to put in a loose puck in a wide open net after miscommunication behind the net and weird bounce got it out in front.

The Wolverines made a game out of it though when Carson Baptiste was able to make it a one goal game with four seconds left in the second, with a powerplay goal.

But in the third, even with 14 shots in the period, the Wolverines weren’t able to find the back of the net, and with the loss, the Wolverines playoff chances finished.

The team will play two more games against the OCN Blizzard on Friday in OCN and Saturday in Waywayseecappo.
