Wolverines Edge Blues 3-2 in Crucial Win

Anthony Bilka scored twice while Isaac LaBelle stood tall, stopping 35 of 37 shots in a 3-2 win for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Wednesday night in the valley.

It was the Winnipeg Blues who struck first on Wednesday night in Waywayseecappo, Ty Naaykens shot beat Isaac LaBelle just inside the post to give the Blues a 1-0 lead at 8:55 of the first.

Just over 1:30 later, Gregg Lee buried a rebound in front and beat Jeremy Link off of a nice rush from Anthony Bilka.

Isaac LaBelle stood tall in the second period for the Wolverines, making a number of ten-bell saves including a windmill glove save on the doorstep just before the halfway mark of the period. The Wolverines would shut the door and carry momentum into the third period, leading 2-1.

The Wolverines sure wouldn’t wait long to get on the board in the third period as Anthony Bilka finished off a beautiful give and go play which he would end up firing the puck just under the crossbar to put the Wolverines up 3-1.

Late in the third, the Blues would capitalize with 58.5 seconds remaining after they pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, but Isaac LaBelle and the rest of the Wolverines would shut the door to grab a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Blues.

Now 16-20-2-2 on the season, the Wolverines will have another shot to take down the Portage Terriers on the road in Portage on Saturday, January 12 at 7:30.
