Wolverines drop another close one

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines took a lead into the third period against the Portage Terriers but let three unanswered by to lose 5-3.

The game was the Teddy Bear Toss game for the Wolverines, with bears getting thrown to the ice after the team’s first goal.

That goal was scored by Lucas Perry, getting his second of the season after coming from the back of the net out in front.

A total of 186 bears were picked up after the goal.

The Terriers tied it up a few minutes later though when Daniel Siso scored on the powerplay.

In the second period, the game went back and forth with Sean Williams springing Jack Clarke for a breakaway, in which he was able to beat Jayden Catellier to make it 2-1.

The lead was short lived when Aleyandro De Leon scored 17 seconds later to tie it up.

Just a couple minutes later though when Sam McPeak sniped to a make it 3-2.

The Wolverines held the lead the rest of the period and took the one-goal lead into the third.

But the Terriers tied it up quickly, when Parker Scherr scored from the point to tie it up at 3.

The Terriers gave themselves a lead for the first time when Grant Dardis pounced on a turnover by Kaiden Kirkwood to make it 4-3 with 7:41 left in the third.

Portage added an empty net goal from Nolan Nenow with five seconds left.

The Wolverines outshot the Terriers 32-24 in the game.

They were shutout on the powerplay as well, going 0/3, but gave up a powerplay goal as the Terriers went 1/2.

The Wolverines will next play on Friday in The Pas to take on the OCN Blizzard at 7:00pm.
