Wolverines Cruise to Fourth Straight Win With Victory Over Oil Capitals

Isaac LaBelle stopped 29 of 30 shots and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines continued their hot start to the season on Saturday night, picking up their fourth straight win by defeating the Virden Oil Capitals 4-1.

It was the Wolverines who opened the scoring in the first period when Jake Bestul found Brady Pupp on the point. Pupp fired a shot in past Oil Capitals goaltender Dalton Dosch to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. Preston Seymour made a perfect pass to Xavier Halterman on a shorthanded 2-on-1 that Halterman made no mistake on, finding the back of the net to give the Wolverines a two-goal lead after the first period. Despite Koltan Kanaski cutting the Wolverines lead to one midway through the second, Waywayseecappo would kill off three penalties in the period, with Isaac LaBelle and company stopping 14 of 15 shots sent his way in the frame.

Drew Anderson’s holding penalty at the end of the second period would turn into a positive start to the third for the Wolverines. Jake Bestul and Alex Lucken would connect with Brandon Lawson who would score the Wolverines second shorthanded goal of the game to get in frontĀ 3-1.

With just over five minutes remaining in the game, Conrad Phillips dished the puck up to Morgan Poirier who would thwart off a defender and skate down the ice to tuck one in past Dosch.

Virden would pull their goalie late to put on the extra attacker, but the Wolverines would hold on and skate away with a 4-1 victory, increasing their win streak to 4-0-0.

The Wolverines will look to keep their perfect record intact when the team travels to Virden on Thursday, October 4th for the rematch.
