The Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped their first game of the preseason losing 4-2 to the Swan Valley Stampeders on Monday night.
The Wolverines scored the first goal of the game, but then gave up three unanswered to find themselves in a hole that they couldn’t get out of.
Max Dawson scored to give the Wolves the early lead, but the Stamps tied it after a maneuver and goal by Hunter Toth.
In the second period, a misplay by goaltender Zakary Matheson gave Stampeders forward Dayson Martin an easy goal into a wide open net. Just moments later, it was Dylan Ruff that scored to make it 3-1.
In the third period, Mikey Thomas on the powerplay made it a one goal game with a snipe.
But Swan Valley put it away when Ryder Woods scored in the remaining minutes.
The Wolverines outshot the Stamps 34-26 in the game.
The team shared goaltending duties in the game as Matheson started the game and stopped 10 of 13, while Urijah Moosetail came in halfway through and stopped 12 of 13 shots in the game.
The Wolveirnes will next play the Dauphin Kings on Friday and Saturday to continue their preseason.
