Wolverines Acquire Kieran Thiessen in Deal With Pistons

The Waywayseecapo Wolverines have acquired 17-year-old Forward Kieran Thiessen from the Steinbach Pistons in exchange for the CJHL Playing rights of Nico Labossiere.

The Landmark, MB native has had an outstanding season with the Midget AAA Eastman Selects. Thiessen made a serious jump on the stat sheet from last season, nearly tripling his point totals. In 33 games, the 5-foot-8, 146-pound forward has scored 21 goals and 24 assists.

“I worked on every little detail from shooting to passing and edgework,” Thiessen said in an interview over the phone. “I think it really helped a lot. My season has gone really well, our team has a really good shot at winning it all, we’re a good team all around.”

And according to Wolverines Director of Scouting, Troy Hickman, Thiessen should fit right in with the organization.

“Kieran is a quick, shifty forward who sees and reads the ice really well,” Hickman said. “He will certainly fit in well with the Wolverines style of game. He’s had a very good season with the Eastman Selects.”

Although Thiessen didn’t know too much about the organization initially, a phone call with Wolverines Head Coach and General Manager, Taylor Harnett changed that quickly.

“I like to play a full 200-foot game, just an all-around player. I want to play at the highest level I possibly can. I didn’t know much about the organization but it sounds great, I’m pretty excited to come out,” Thiessen concluded.”

Thiessen will continue to play out the rest of this season with the Eastman Selects before making the jump to Junior ‘A’ to start the 2019-20 campaign.
