Wayway gets weekend sweep

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are 2-0, after a 5-1 win over the Virden Oil Capitals.

Waywayseecappo finished off a strong weekend with a complete game effort in their home opening game.

The Wolverines got on the board first when Tristen Bear put in a loose puck after a rebound given up by Dawson Rattai.

It was the only goal scored in the first.

It took midway through the second period for another goal, when Boston Bird forced a turnover and went in all alone and got a rebound put the Wolverines up 2-0.

The Oil Capitals answered shortly after though, after a 5 on 3 powerplay goal by Braden Fischer.

In the third, the Wolverines exploded for the second straight night. Josh Peppler scored a shorthanded goal with a breakaway at 11:36 of the period. Jacob Charko also scored on a breakaway later on, while Mi-Kwan Tallman scored on a rebound to finish up the scoring.

Liam Tereposky had another solid night, stopping 18 of 19 shots. Dawson Ratti stopped 24 of 29 in the loss.

The two team will play again on Friday, once again in Waywayseecappo, before finishing their four-game series on Saturday in Virden.
