The Waywayseecappo Wolverines did something that they have been unable to do since 2022, and that was to win at the Blizzard’s home barn.
But with some help from an incredible goalie performance from Jase Wareham, and two goals from former Blizzard, Griffin Ayotte, the Wolverines got a 3-2 shootout win to take the first half of the doubleheader.
Getting outshot 51-27, Wareham gave up two goals in the opening 7:44 of the game, but shut the door the rest of the way, including stopping all three shootout attempts, and 20 saves in the third period.
Griffin Ayotte was able to add two more goals to his resume playing at Roy H. Johnston Arena as a visitor, by scoring shorthanded in the first period, and then tying it up in the third period, 7:15 into the frame. He now has all four of the Wolverines goals this year playing against the Blizzard.
In the shootout, Dru Mushumanski was the only one to score, as he scored in the third round to give the Wolverines the win.
The Wolverines powerplay troubles continued, as they went 0/3 with the man advantage, but their penalty kill was domiannt as always, killing off both Blizzard powerplays, and getting a shorthanded goal.
The two teams will play again on Saturday night, as the Wolverines play their final game at Roy H. Johnston Arena for the season. Game starts at 7:00pm.
