The Waywayseecappo Wolverines scored three goals in 2:35 in the third period while Thomson Phinney stopped 22 of 24 shots to secure a 4-2 victory over the OCN Blizzard.
For the second straight night, it was the opposing team who would open the scoring. 4:11 into the first, Ryan Butler beat Thomson Phinney to give the Blizzard an early 1-0 lead.
It would take until near the end of the second period for the Wolverines to get on the board.
After a big hit in the Blizzard zone, Gerrik Ripley picked up the puck and patiently outwaited Danick Rodrigue before snapping it over his shoulder to tie the game at 1-1. Anthony Bilka and Brody Moffat added the assists.
An early penalty from the Blizzard would lead to an early powerplay goal for the Wolverines. On a crisp passing play, Conrad Phillips would blast home a one-timer on the powerplay to put the Wolverines in front, 2-1. Nick Doyle and Jaymes Knee would notch the helpers with their perfect passing.
Cue the goal scoring. Just 40 seconds after Phillips gave the Wolverines a 2-1 lead, Anthony Bilka would strike another powerplay marker with the Wolverines having just finished a 5-on-3. This time, it was Kris Bladen and Tyler Leibl picking up the assists.
1:45 later, Jack Kennedy would score for the second straight game to give the Wolverines a 4-1 lead. Noah Westgate and Kieran Thiessen would draw the assists.
OCN would add a powerplay goal midway through the third period, but that would be as close as they would come as the Waywayseecappo Wolverines would pick up a big two points in the 4-2 victory.
Now 13-7-2-1 on the season, Waywayseecappo will take a road trip south to Selkirk and Steinbach on Saturday and Sunday.
