#TheNextWAYve | Ben Roulette

Twas the night before the 2020 MJHL Draft, and the Wolverines were slated to make their first selection at 7th overall. That was until General Manager, and Head Coach Taylor Harnett struck a deal with the Winnipeg Blues to acquire the 4th overall selection. The deal allowed the hockey club to select Ben Roulette, a 5″10, 145 pound forward out of Rivers Manitoba.

Roulette, the son of Cecil and Tracy, was excited when he saw the Wolverines had chosen him ” I know a lot of kids that have been picked by Wayway, Its a great organization and I’m excited for the opportunity to play there one day.” Ben was also equally excited seeing his good friend Kurt Rookes picked by the Wolverines as well. “I’ve played with Rooksey since I was a little kid. Seeing him picked by the same team is really cool.”

This past season the right shot forward enjoyed an abbreviated yet productive season with the Yellowhead Bantam AAA Chiefs. In 16 games, he racked up 17 points (7 goals and 10 assists). Even though Roulette was above a point per game this past season, he takes pride in playing a full two-hundred-foot game, just like his role model Mitch Marner. “I feel like he’s kind of got it all. he’s a two-hundred-foot player with speed, hands and a good shot.”

Although the current Covid-19 pandemic has made it challenging, Roulette is finding alternative ways to better himself to achieve his goal of making the U18 Yellowhead Chiefs next season. “I’ve got my trainer, we meet via zoom every morning, and she puts me through workouts.” Roulette said.

The Wolverines would like to welcome Ben and his family to the Wolverines organization!
