Team Cooke wins Joe Brandon Cup

Boston Bird scored two goals in the 4th Annual Joe Brandon Cup to give Team Cooke (Alfred) a 4-3 win over Team Mentuck (Walter) in the annual intrasquad game.

Bird scored the teams first and third goal of the game, both of them giving the team a lead. He started the scoring early in the first to put Team Cooke on the board.

It didn’t take too long however for Team Mentuck to answer right back, with a powerplay goal from Mi-Kwan Tallman.

But a few minutes before the end of  the first, Andrew Boucher wired it home to put Team Cooke up 2-1 at the end of the first frame.

In the second, Keenan Skrupa tied it just over six minutes into it. But Bird put Team Cooke back in front with his second of the game to make it 3-2.

In the third, Leyton Smith scored to put Team Cooke up for good, with the only answer from Team Mentuck a goal from Braden Keeble late in the third.

Bird was the first one to lift the Cup, which is dedicated to the late Joe Brandon.

The Wolverines will now begin their MJHL schedule by hosting the Swan Valley Stampeders in an exhibition game on Saturday night starting at 7:00pm. Admission is $5 at the door, and all fans must be double vaxxed and wear a mask at all times.
