Strong Team Effort Leads Wolverines To Key Victory Over Flyers

Gerrik Ripley, Matt Kasowski, and Nick Doyle scored while Liam Tereposky stopped 20 of 22 shots to help lead the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a 3-2 victory over the Winkler Flyers on Tuesday night.

Special teams would play a key role in the first period between the Wolverines and Flyers.\

11:23 into the opening frame, Jayden McCarthy would squeak a shorthanded goal through the wickets of Liam Tereposky to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

Only 25 seconds after McCarthy gave the Flyers the lead, Gerrik Ripley would capitalize and beat Goaltender, Dylan Meilun to knot the game up at 1-1.

The Wolverines would go to the powerplay before the end of the period, and this time it would be Matt Kasowski cashing in with the man-advantage. Kasowski took a pass from Alex Lucken and slid it through the five-hole of Meilun to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

After a quiet first ten minutes of the second period, Nick Doyle’s 8th of the season would give the Wolverines a 3-1 lead with Gerrik Ripley and Noah Westgate picking up their second points of the night with the assists.

The Wolverines would be forced to kill off a late too many men penalty and would head into the break leading the Winkler Flyers, 3-1.

The Winkler Flyers would pull Meilun for the extra attacker and get a late powerplay to make it 6-on-4 and would find the back of the net to make it 3-2 Wolverines, but that would be all as Waywayseecappo would pick up a 3-2 win over the Flyers.

Now 16-11-2-2 on the year, the Wolverines will have a couple of days off of game action before returning to home ice to host the Neepawa Natives on Friday night for the start of a home and home series.
