Steelers get win in first game of the weekend

In their first game since the MJHL/SJHL Showcase, the Wolverines had an uninspiring performance against the Selkirk Steelers, losing 4-1.

The Wolverines could only beat Selkirk’s Hunter Tarves once on on 29 shots in the game.

The only goal in the first period was scored by Selkirk’s Owen Johnston after he shot it from the point to get the icebreaker in the game.

In the second period, just 32 seconds into the game, it was Ethan Brown shorthanded to make it 2-0 for the Steelers.

Brown got his second of the game just six minutes later to make it 3-0 for Selkirk going into the third period.

In the third, the Wolverines finally got on the board when Sean Williams scored with 5:28 left in the game.

The Steelers got an empty netter with three minutes left in the game though, by Cameron Hibbert to make it 4-1.

Wolverines goaltender Marek Andres was pulled from the game after the third Steelers goal, as was replaced by Tresor Wotton, who did not give up a goal the rest of the way.

The two teams will play again on Saturday night, in Waywayseecappo at 7:30pm.
