Rookes signs Letter of Intent with Wolverines

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are excited to announce that Kurt Rookes has signed a letter of intent for the 2022-23 season.

Rookes, 16, has been playing with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the Manitoba Under-18 Hockey League for the past two seasons, and had 11 goals and 27 assists in 43 games this past season. He has played defence and forward during this year’s campaign.

The Manson, MB product was drafted 7th overall in first round in the MJHL Draft in 2020.

Kurt signed with the Wolverines on the same day as teammate Ben Roulette and says it was pretty cool to do it all on the same day as someone he has played with for a long time.

“Me and Ben are really good friends and have been playing on the same line as of right now, so it’s pretty cool to be able to do this at the same time,” says Rookes.

Rookes says he has had a good experience so far with the Wolverines being able to participate in last year’s training camp and been out to a few practices as well.

“The (Wolverines) staff has reached out and been keeping me in the loop and have been very supportive so far.”

Rookes had five points in four games in the playoffs as the Yellowhead Chiefs lost in the first round to the Parkland Rangers, including a three point night in their only win of the playoffs.
