Rookes commits to University of Regina

Waywayseecappo Wolverines forward/defencemen Kurt Rookes has committed to play USports Hockey with the University of Regina Cougars for the 2026-27 season.

Rookes, has been playing both the forward and defence position as he returned to the Wolverines this year, and has put up nine goals and 45 assists for a total of 54 points in 55 games played. The 20-year-old is one of the assistant captains for the team.

In his 17-year-old year with Waywayseecappo, he had 16 points in 54 games and was named the team’s rookie of the year.

After his rookie season with the Wolverines, Rookes played two Western Hockey League seasons, playing 30 games with the Wenatchee Wild in 2023-24 before appearing in 48 contests with Swift Current in 2024-25.

The Manson, MB product plans to enroll in the University of Regina’s Hill School of Business.
