Early in the third period, it looked like maybe another collapse against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard was near for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, but five goals later, the Wolverines escaped with a 7-2 win.
Earlier this year, the Wolverines fell in The Pas on back to back nights to the Blizzard, a team that has only won five games this year. After two periods of shutout hockey, leading 2-0, the Blizzard scored early in the third, putting a scare into Waywayseecappo again.
But five goals in a row in the last 13 minutes put that to bed.
Max Collyer had a hat trick, Sebastien Hicks had two goals and an assist, and Cole Hunter had three assists as the Wolverines piled it on in the final frame.
The Wolverines killed off 8 powerplays in the game, including two double minors and five straight penalties to finish off the second period. They also went 1/3 on the powerplay in the game.
Mariko Bercier was good, stopping 20 of 22 shots on net for the win, while Nick Kunyk stopped 22 of 29 shots in the loss.
Aidan Herring (1G, 1A) and Lynden Gould (2A) also had multi-point games.
The Wolverines next game will be on Tuesday as they host the Winnipeg Blues at the Waywayseecappo Arena at 7:30pm.
