RECAP: Wolverines sweep weekend doubleheader with Dauphin

Dylan Duzan recorded three points as the Waywayseecappo Wolverines defeated the Dauphin Kings 4–2 on Saturday night at the Waywayseecappo Arena.

The victory completed a home-and-home sweep of the Kings and improved the Wolverines’ preseason record to 3–1.

Waywayseecappo came out firing, scoring twice and outshooting Dauphin 17–9 in the opening period.

Mikey Thomas opened the scoring just 1:14 into the game for his second goal of the preseason. Isaac Catcheway doubled the lead at 6:43, scoring his first of the preseason with Max Dawson picking up the assist.

Dauphin cut the lead in half midway through the second period when Collin Friedrich found the back of the net.

The Kings tied the game 2–2 early in the third, but the Wolverines needed just over three minutes to answer. Duzan restored the lead at 5:12 what stood as the game-winning goal.

Duzan struck again on the power play at 13:56 to give Waywayseecappo some insurance. Catcheway and Dawson assisted on the goal, giving both players two-point performances.

Duzan finished the night with two goals and an assist, while Thomas and Catcheway each recorded a goal and an assist. Dawson added two assists from the blue line.

Mariko Bercier started in goal and stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced. Zakary Matheson played the second half and made five saves to earn the victory.

The Wolverines finished with a commanding 43–21 advantage in shots, went 1-for-3 on the power play and killed off both Dauphin opportunities.

Waywayseecappo has now won three of its first four preseason games.

The Wolverines will continue their preseason schedule Tuesday night when they travel to Melville to face the Millionaires.
