RECAP: Wolverines start series with overtime win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines have started their first round series with a 4-3 overtime win over the Dauphin Kings.

Cole Hunter scored on a breakaway goal at the 6:05 mark into the first overtime period, as the puck barely made it past the line, securing the Game 1 win.

Waywayseecappo had to come back in the third period after they started the third giving up a 3-2 goal just 48 seconds into it.

The Wolverines started the scoring in the first period when a turnover landed on Blake Farthing stick, and he was able to pass it over to Max Collyer where he got it past Hunter Bauer to make it 1-0.

Just over a minute later, the Kings got the powerplay, and Joey Kubas scored with a tipped shot just in front of Jase Wareham to tie the game up.

After the halfway mark of the period, Kurt Rookes scored a powerplay goal of his own to make it 2-1 heading into the second period.

The Kings tied it up with a Ty Pratte goal from the point that found its way past Wareham on the powerplay at the 3:50 mark in the period.

In the third, Ethan Stewart scored while it was 4-on-4 just 48 seconds into the period to give the Kings their first lead of the game.

But the Wolverines answered, as Sebastien Hicks scored on the powerplay, to tie it 3-3, making the game go to overtime, where Cole Hunter won it.

After a dominating first period for Waywayseecappo, the Kings came back in the second and third and put pressure on the Wolverines, but couldn’t solve it in regulation.

Wareham stopped 37 of 40 shots in the game, keeping the game close for the Wolverines. Bauer stopped 26 shots in the loss.

Both teams special teams were good with the man advantage, as they both scored two powerplay goals.

Game 2 between the two clubs will be on Sunday as the Wolverines host at 7:30pm.
