RECAP: Wolverines smothered by Oil Capitals in loss

In a game with big playoff implications, it was a low-event hockey game that ended with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines losing to the Virden Oil Capitals 3-1.

In a game that only had 49 shots combined between the two teams, the Oil Capitals were always able to stay just a little bit a head of the Wolverines to get the win, The win moving them five points ahead of the Wolverines in the West Division playoff race.

After no scoring in the first period, former Wolverine Luke Robson got the scoring started at 5:47 into the second period when he was able to pick the corner to make it 1-0.

The Oil Capitals added on to the lead in the third period when a giveaway turned into a Cole Robertson breakaway that ended up in the back of the net to give Virden a 2-0 lead.

The Wolverines got back in the game about a minute and a half later on the powerplay when Sebastian Stone was able to knock in a goal to make it 2-1.

But the Oil Capitals put the game away when Brooks Siemens scored with 4:05 left in the third period, to make it a final 3-1.

Loic Morin stopped 21 shots in the win, while Mariko Bercier stopped 24 in the loss.

The Wolverines will now play in Winnipeg on Friday to take on the Blues before playing Winkler on Saturday. They will return to home ice on Monday for the Family Day game at 4:00pm against Swan Valley.
