RECAP: Wolverines shut down Steelers offence

The game was short of the fireworks from last Friday, but the same result happened as the Wolverines beat the Selkirk Steelers 3-1 on Thursday night.

Aidan Herring and Cole Hunter scored a goal each, and Mariko Bercier stopped 25 shots to help the Wolverines win their second straight game for the first time this season.

The scoring halfway through the first period, as Hunter was able to score off a scramble in front to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Steelers tied the game when a breakaway goal by Dawson Madden levelled the score, but the Wolverines got back in front when in his return to the lineup, Aidan Herring sniped one past Hudson Hunnie to give them a one goal lead heading into the third period.

In the third, the Wolverines were put behind the 8-ball when Ben Roulette was given a five minute major for cross checking, but the team was able to kill off the entire Steelers powerplay.

Sebastien Hicks iced the game with an empty net goal with 18 seconds left in the game.

Both teams were unsuccessful on the powerplay, going a combined 0/9 with the man advantage, a far cry from the scoring spree the teams combined on back on Friday night.

The Wolverines will next take on the Neepawa Titans on Saturday night for their annual Teddy Bear Toss Game.
