The Waywayseecappo Wolverines shut down the Virden Oil Capitals 1-0 to win a very important game to help them get three points up on the Oil Caps for the final playoff spot in the West Division.
Mariko Bercier stopped 32 shots in the game to get his first career MJHL shutout, and Dylan Duzan scored the only goal of the game.
Duzan’s goal happened at the 4:35 mark of the second period, which led to the Wolverines holding down the fort for the rest of the game.
Both teams were given two powerplays, but couldn’t convert on either one of them.
With the win, the Wolverines moved up by three points on the Oil Capitals. Virden will get the game in hand they have back when they take on the Winnipeg Blues on Wednesday. After that, the Wolverines will play two games on the weekend (against Portage and Winkler). Both teams will then play Tuesday. Then Virden will play two games next weekend while the Wolverines have a weekend off. The last week will have both teams play three games.
The Wolverines next game will be on Saturday in Portage. The next home game will be on Tuesday against the Winnipeg Freeze.
