RECAP: Wolverines shut down by Flyers

After a big win on Saturday, the Wolverines offence couldn’t generate much of anything in a 4-1 loss to the Winkler Flyers on Sunday night.

The Flyers outshot the Wolverines 40-13 in the game, and did most of their scoring in the first period, to build up a big lead and then hold on the rest of the way.

The Flyers came out firing on all cylinders, as Liam Carlone got the scoring started just 1:57 into the game.

The Wolverines tied it up when Sebastien Hicks was sprung on a breakaway and beat Liam Ernst with a deke.

But just 24 seconds later, Andrew Morton scored from the point to retake the lead.

Later on, Miklas Gudmundson scored while in the slot all alone to make it 3-1. The Flyers outshot the Wolverines 18-4 in the period.

In the second period, there was no scoring but the Flyers outshot the Wolverines once again, 10-5.

In the third, the Flyers put the game away with 3:57 left to go when Niklas Gudmundson scored on a passing play to make it 4-1.

Bercier stopped 36 of 40 shots in the game, while Liam Ernst 12 of 13 for the win.

Both teams went scoreless on the powerplay, with the Wolverines getting three chances, and the Flyers getting two.

The Wolverines next game will be on Tuesday as they take on the Winnipeg Freeze on home ice.
