RECAP: Wolverines shut down Blues for win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines gained a bit of ground on the West Division playoff race on Friday night as they beat the Winnipeg Blues 3-1.

Wearing pink jerseys, the Wolverines shut down the Blues attack, almost getting a shutout but letting in a goal in the final minutes.

After a scoreless first period, the Wolverines were able to get two goals in the second period, when Sebastien Hicks scored on a 2-on-1, and Ryley Cyca scored from the point to make it 2-0 after the first forty minutes.

In the third, the Blues got within one goal when Max Stanton got his third of the year with only 3:38 in the game.

But the Wolverines secured the victory when Sebastian Stone got an empty net powerplay goal to make it the final 3-1.

Mariko Bercier came up big with 26 saves in the game, while Samuel Couture stopped 25 in the loss.

The Wolverines were 2/5 on the powerplay and killed off all five of the Blues powerplays.

The Wolverines got a little bit of help with the Swan Valley Stampeders beat the Virden Oil Capitals in a shootout on Friday. The Wolverines are only one point back now, but still have played two more games.

The Wolverines next game will be on Tuesday against those Oil Capitals.
