When you get nine powerplays, you better make it worth it, and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines sure did as they beat the Winkler Flyers 4-2 on Saturday night.
The Wolverines scored three powerplay goals on the #1 penalty killing team in the league, including the game winner with 8:14 left in the game.
The only goal in the first period was a Sebastien Hicks powerplay goal, as he got his 29th of the season.
In the early part of the second period, the Wolverines took a 2-0 lead when Rhett Perrin found a loose puck in a scramble, and put it away on the powerplay.
Winkler came back though as Jack Swanepoel’s shot from the point trickled by Bericer to cut the lead to one.
The Flyers tied it up at the 13:41 mark when Kade Stringer batted one out of mid air.
In the third, the Wolverines were given a 5-on-3 when Winkler picked up back to back kneeing penalties. Sebastien Hicks picked up his 30th of the season on the man advantage to give the Wolverines the lead.
Ben Roulette later got an empty net to ice the game away, and give the Wolverines their fifth straight win and eleventh game in a row with a point.
Mariko Bercier stopped 33 shots in the win, while Liam Russell stopped the same amount in a losing cause.
The Wolverines will now take on the Dauphin Kings in an important divisional matchup on Monday at 4pm.
