RECAP: Wolverines powerplay gets them overtime win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines rode their powerplay to an overtime win on Friday night as they defeated the Selkirk Steelers 5-4.

Sebastien Hicks scored two goals and had an assist, including the overtime winner, to help the team get their second win over the Steelers in two weeks.

The game was back and forth the whole way through, with no team ever getting a two goal lead.

The Steelers scored first when Owen Branson scored off a bounce off the glass behind the net, that landed right in front, and was able to beat a sprawling Mariko Bercier.

The Wolverines tied it up later when Sebastien Hicks finished off a 2-on-1 and scored for the first time since October.

Just over a minute later, Griffin Krone scored to give Selkirk the lead again with a powerplay goal, but the Wolverines tied it up late in the period with and Adam Chipelski powerplay goal.

In the second, Selkirk scored first with Landon Jamieson scoring his fifth of the season.

The Wolverines would score back to back powerplay goals when Kurt Rookes and Cole Hunter scored just 1:29 apart to give Waywayseecappo their first lead of the game. But just 10 seconds later Dawson Madden tied the game for Selkirk.

In the third, there was no scoring, but the Wolverines had to kill off a 5-on-3 late in the game, and were able to do it. In the full game, they killed of 7 of the 9 penalty kills.

In overtime, the Wolverines got a powerplay after Evan Mayer got called for a two minute Head Contact penalty. After that Hicks scored the OT winner and gave the Wolverines the full two points.

The Wolverines went 5/8 on the powerplay, scoring all five goals with the mad advantage.

The two teams will play once again on Thursday in Waywayseecappo.
