RECAP: Wolverines overpower Blizzard

In what was the appetizer for an exciting weekend of hockey in Waywayseecappo, the Wolverines beat the Northern Manitoba Blizzard 5-2.

Taking on the last place team in the MJHL, the Wolverines had a few scares but eventually put the game away in the third period, with the help of a goal and two assists from Ben Roulette, and two points from Noah Oughton.

The Wolverines scored less than a minute into the game when former Blizzard Max Collyer was able to tip in one past Keagin Kelln.

The Blizzard did tie it up halfway through the game when Shea Fitzgerald was able to lift it over Mariko Bercier. But the Wolverines when Treycen Wuttunee finished up a nice passing play to make it 2-1 heading into the second period.

Northern Manitoba tied it up just three minutes into the second when Jack Perrier scored his second of the game. The Wolverines took the lead halfway through the period when Aidan Herring scored on the powerplay to make it 3-2 heading into the third.

It wasn’t until the 8:14 mark when the Wolverines finally added an insurance mark when Ben Roulette scored on a 2-on-1 with Sebastien Hicks. Noah Oughton then clinched the game with an empty net goal with 1:03 left in the game.

The Wolverines outshot the Blizzard 51-20 in the game.

Waywayseecappo will play on Saturday as they host the Steinbach Pistons at 7:30pm.
