RECAP: Wolverines lose to Flyers

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines kept it close through two periods against the top team in the MJHL, but couldn’t muster anything in the third for a 6-2 loss to the Winkler Flyers.

Three goals in the third for Winkler, helped them triple up the Wolverines on Saturday night.

The Flyers got scoring started when Kam Thomas slid one five hole on Jase Wareham to make it 1-0.

But the Wolverines tied it up when Sebastien Hicks connected on a pass across the ice from Sebastian stone to tie it up at 1.

The Flyers got out in front early in the second when Niklas Gudmundson was able to jump on a rebound and get it under the bar.

In the last few minutes, the Flyers covered the puck in their own crease, which gave the Wolverines a penalty shot. Jaxon Grosdidier scored on the given shot to make it 2-2.

But the Flyers answered in less than a minute when Blake Matheson put in a point shot to make it 3-2 at the end of the frame.

But in the third, Jayce Legaarden, Gudmundson again and Will Brophy scored to make it a final, 6-2.

Liam Ernst stopped 15 shots in the win, while Jase Wareham stopped 29 in the loss.

The Wolverines were 1/5 on the powerplay, and killed off 2 of the three Flyers chances in the game.

Waywayseecappo did get some help in the out of town scoreboard as Neepawa took down Virden 4-2, so the Wolverines keep behind the Oil Cpaitals by three points.

The Wolverines next game will be on Monday as they host the Swan Valley Stampeders at 4:00pm on Family Day.
