RECAP: Wolverines lose lead and lose in a shootout

After a dominating second period, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines had a third to forget as it lead to a shootout loss in Neepawa.

The Neepawa Titans stormed back from down two goals in the third period and actually took a lead until the Wolverines tied the game late, before they could seal the game in the shootout.

In the first period, the two teams exchanged goals as Kyle Weisgarber and Aidan Herring scored twenty seconds apart to make it 1-1 after one.

The Wolverines got out to a hot start in the second as Ben Roulette and Herring scored in the opening five minutes. Neepawa made it a one goal game as Owen Durigan scored. But the Wolverines got another as Sebastien Hicks scored on the powerplay.

In the third, Neepawa came out looking to respond, and sure enough they did with three straight goals by Durigan, Paquette and Jack Clark to take the lead into the dying minutes. But Ryley Cyca tied the game for the Wolverines with 1:12 left in the game to solidify a point.

In overtime, the Wolverines had a powerplay chance but couldn’t score and in the shootout Keenan Skrupa scored the only goal and Zach Burleigh stopped all three chances to win the game for Neepawa.

The Titans move 8 points up on Waywayseecappo after the win.

The Wolverines next game will be on Saturday as they take on the Portage Terriers wearing pink jerseys for Hockey Fights Cancer night.
