The Waywayseecappo Wolverines win streak came to an end in a 5-1 loss to the Steinbach Pistons on Thursday night.
The Wolverines were trailing all night, but managed to keep themselves engaged but could only get one past Pistons goalie, Christian Green.
In the first period, the Pistons got on the board 4:22 into the game when Sam Zagari was able to tip in a shot by Spencer Penner to make it 1-0.
Later on, Zagari got his second goal of the night when he banged in his own rebound after taking a pass from Zhenya Miles to make it 2-0 at the end of the first frame.
In the second period, Zhenya Miles scored early in the period to make it a 3-0 lead, but Steinbach couldn’t get another the for the rest of the frame.
In the third, Steinbach made it 4-0 when Luca Pura scored his first MJHL goal just a few minutes into the third.
The Wolverines made it somewhat of a game though when Rhett Perrin scored his sixth of the year off a faceoff to make it 4-1. But even with a 5-on-3 powerplay chance, the Wolverines were unable to get second goal.
Steinbach iced it when Pura scored his second of the game to make it officially 5-1.
Green stopped 32 of 33 for the win, while Mariko Bercier stopped 30 of 35 in the loss.
Both teams powerplays couldn’t get anything going, as they were a collective 0/12, with the Wolverines getting seven of those chances.
Waywayseecappo will take on the Winnipeg Freeze next on Friday night at the Hockey For All Centre.
