RECAP: Wolverines hold on for win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines held on for a 3-2 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders in preseason action on Friday night.

Hometown kid Athens Shingoose had a goal and an assist in his debut with the Wolverines and Urijah Moosetail stopped 25 of 26 shots to give the Wolverines the win.

Waywayseecappo started the scoring early in the first just six minutes in when Shingoose turned the puck over and was able to sniped it past Sam Bastien.

The Wolverines added another as Grady McNish was able to get one by off a face off to make it 2-0.

In the second period, Swan Valley scored as Dayson Martin was able to backhand it over Haden Heide to make it a one goal game heading into the third.

Halfway through the period, Ben Brambilla scored with a backhand goal from Shingoose and Noah Oughton, to make it 3-1.

The Wolverines were cruising to a win, but then Gavin Quennelle got a major for charging with just 4:17 left in the game. On the 5-on-3 (which turned to a 6-on-4 with an empty net), the Stampeders got a goal by Ryder Boddez early in the powerplay.

But even with another penalty by the Wovlerines to make it a 6-on-3 with nine seconds left, the Wolverines were able to kill the remaining time to get the win.

The Wolverines will next travel to Melville to take on the SJHL’s Millionaires to finish the Canadian portion of their preseason schedule, before heading to Minot next weekend.
