RECAP: Wolverines get big win in Portage

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines helped their case in the rase for a playoff spot after a big 5-3 win over the Portage Terriers.

The line of Rhett Perrin, Dylan Duzan and Sebastien Hicks each picked up a goal and two assists, Mariko Bercier stopped 46 shots, to give the Wolverines the win over one of the giants of the East Division.

The Wolverines started the game with a two goal lead when Sebastien Hicks and Jacob McKague jumped on Terriers turnovers in the opening 11 minutes of the game.

In the second period, the two teams exchanged goals as Portage made it a one goal game with Daine Dellezay scoring in the opening few minutes. Rhett Perrin then answered, as the former Terrier scored his 8th of the year.

In the third, the Wolverines made it 4-1 when Dylan Duzan scored a nifty goal at the halfway mark of the period.

But the Terriers came back as Grant Dardis and Caleb Lepitre scored a few to  make it a one goal game.

But Aidan Herring scored the empty net goal to make it a 5-3 final.

With the win, the Wolverines move three points ahead of Virden for the final playoff spot in the West Division, but they have played one more game.

The Wolverines will next play the Winkler Flyers in Winkler on Sunday night.
