After scoring four goals during a four game losing streak, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines almost doubled that in one game as they beat the Selkirk Steelers 7-4 on Friday night.
The Wolverines came back from an early 2-0 deficit to come back and snap their four game losing streak.
The Steelers got two goals in under a minute of game time in the first when Rohan Guevarra and Ian Lavalee scored to make it 2-0. The Wolverines got within one though before the end of the period when Jacob McKague scored his first MJHL goal to make it 2-1.
The Wolverines got a couple of quick goals of their own when Jaxon Grosdidier and Maddox Mason responded to put Waywayseecappo up by one.
Luke McCarthy scored though for the Steelers to tie it up again on the powerplay.
The Wolverines got a powerplay right after, and Mikey Thomas was able to jam it past Steelers goalie, Ethan Sawyer to put Waywayseecappo back in front.
Before the end of the period, on a delayed penalty, Brock Behrend scored to make it 5-3.
The Wolverines gave themselves a three goal lead Sebastien Hicks scored his first of two on the night. He later added a shorthanded goal to make it 7-3.
The Steelers did get one back when McCarthy scored on a turnover, but that’s as close as Selkirk would get.
The Wolverines outshot the Steelers 54-47 in the game. Mariko Bercier stopped 43 shots in the win, including a penalty shot in the third period.
They will now head to La Broquerie to take on the Steinbach Pistons on Saturday night at 7:00pm.
