RECAP: Wolverines fast start leads to win over Virden

The Teddy Bears came down in Waywayseecappo on Tuesday night, and then within one minute of game time, the Wolverines scored two more goals to take a big lead and cruise to a 4-1 win over the Virden Oil Capitals.

The Wolverines scored three goals within 51 seconds in the first period, from Cole Hunter, Tootoo Fotheringham and Mikey Thomas, that gave them a lead that the Oil Capitals couldn’t recover from.

The three goals chased Oil Capitals goaltender Gavin Renwick from the net, as he was only able to stop 6 of the first nine shots he faced.

Maddox Mason added a goal in the second for the Wolverines, while Noel Englot was the only one to beat Jase Wareham for the Oil Capitals.

The Wolverines went 2/7 on the powerplay in penalty filled game. They also killed off all seven of Virden’s powerplays in the game.

The Oil Capitals picked up 58 penalty minutes in the game, with four 10-minute misconducts, including a bench minor as Head Coach Tyson Ramsety was kicked out of the game for arguing with the referees.

The Wolverines now move three points back of Virden for the final playoff spot in the West Division, with two games in hand.

Waywayseecappo will now take on the Portage Terriers on Friday night at home, before heading to Neepawa on the road on Saturday night.
