The Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped their first game of the playoffs, losing 2-1 in Niverville on Thursday night, falling 1-0 in the best of seven series.
Adam Vigfusson’s goal at the 7:46 mark in the third period ended up being the winner, as the Nighthawks continued their unbeaten streak in the playoffs.
The first period was scoreless, as the Nighthawks outshot the Wolverines 9-8. The only mark on the box score was a penalty for the Wolverines as Brodie Heimbecker was assessed a boarding penalty.
In the second, the Nighthawks scored in the opening minute on a 3-on-1 as Hayden Wheddon scored his second of the playoffs.
The Wolverines tied it up early in the third period when Noah Oughton put one on net and it went high up on Dubinsky at the 2:02 mark.
But the Vigfusson goal just over five minutes later put the Nighthawks in front for good, and gave them the first win of the series.
Niverville outshot the Wolverines 36-25 in the game, and had five powerplay chances, scoring on one. The Wolverines had three chances, but couldn’t capitalize on any of them.
The two teams will play Game 2 in Waywayseecappo on Saturday night, as the Wolverines will try to tie the series up.
