The Teddy Bear goal had to wait a bit, and so did the positive vibes in the building of the Waywayseecappo Arena. But after two delays, and a massive fight, the Wolverines turned a deficit into a lead and into a 3-2 win over the Neepawa Titans.
As many fans came to the game for the Teddy Bear Toss, the crowd had to wait halfway through the first period after a glass by the penalty box exploded after a hit given by Wolverines Cole Hunter.
After a half an hour delay, and the two teams regrouped and played on. A goal wasn’t scored until the final seconds of the first period when Jack Clark scored his 14th of the season.
The second period started immediately after, and the game went on without a goal until Kyle Weisgarber scored on a 2-on-1 with Clark with just 1:14 left in the period.
Before heading in for the last intermission though, Dylan Duzan finally gave the crowd something to cheer about and a goal to throw their bears at when he dangled the Titans team just 15 seconds later.
The third period started off with a spirited tilt between Xander Mecas and Dylan McCann, which was then answered 13 seconds later with a goal by Sebastien Hicks after a mishandle behind the net.
The Wolverines took the lead later on when Kurt Rookes scored after passes by 17-year-olds Cole Hunter and Adam Chipelski with 7:22 left in the game.
After that, the Wolverines held on for the remaining minutes to secure their third straight win.
Mariko Bercier put aside 29 shots in the win, while Zach Burleigh stopped 27 in the loss.
Both teams went scoreless on the powerplay, as Neepawa went 0/2, and Waywayseecappo went 0/1.
The Wolverines next game will be on Sunday as they travel to Dauphin to take on the Kings at Credit Union Place at 4pm.
