A bad start to the game left the Waywayseecappo Wolverines trailing for most of it, eventually losing 7-4 to the Virden Oil Capitals.
Even though they scored the first goal, the Wolverines gave up four straight to end the first period, leaving the team with a big mountain to climb the rest of the way.
The Wolverines got within one goal in the early parts of the third period, but two more goals in the late part of the game for Virden (one of them an empty net goal) gave the Oil Capitals an important win.
The Oil Capitals got goals from Tyson Draper, London Hoilett (2), Noel Englot, Nathan Schaefer, Brooks Siemens and Bryce Bryant.
The Wolverines got goals from Aidan Herring, Mikey Thomas, Cale Livingston and Sebastien Hicks.
Waywayseecappo pulled their goalie Mariko Bercier after the first period, and Jase Wareham stopped 15 of 17 shots the rest of the way.
The two teams will meet again on Friday in Virden at 7:30pm.
