RECAP: Powerplay gives Wolverines win over Virden

Three powerplay goals helped the Waywayseecappo Wolverines bounce back from Wednesday’s loss, to beat the very same Virden Oil Capitals 4-3.

Ben Roulette scored twice in the first period, Blake Farthing scored in his Wolverines debut, and Kurt Rookes scored his first goal of the season to give the Wolverines the win.

The first period started back and forth, when Ben Roulette scored first on the powerplay more than halfway through the first period.

But Virden tied it up quickly when London Hoilett tied things off a giveaway. The Oil Capitals got themselves a lead just 27 seconds later when Noel Englot scored to make it 2-1.

But Roulette scored another powerplay goal to tie things up at two heading into the second period.

Farthing scored early to make it 3-2 with a 2-on-1 with Roulette. And then Rookes scored his first of the season with a powerplay goal of his own to make it 4-2.

The Oil Capitals got it within one when Bryce Bryant scored his fourth of the season on the powerplay to get within one heading into the third period.

But for the last twenty minutes, Jase Wareham stopped all 10 shots that came his way to seal the victory for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines were 3/6 with the man advantage in the game, while killing off 2 of the 3 Virden powerplays in the game.

Wareham stopped 30 of 33 for his fourth win of the season.

The Wolverines next game will be on Tuesday when they host the Winnipeg Blues at 7:30pm.
