The Waywayseecappo Wolverines got out to an early lead, but couldn’t hold on, losing to the Steinbach Pistons 5-3.
After an early two goal lead, the team gave up four unanswered until making it a game late in the third period.
The Wolverines scored the first goal of the game when Sebastien Hicks scored his 4th of the season on the powerplay after a cross ice pass from Ben Roulette, just moments after Kurt Rookes stopped the puck from leaving the zone.
Waywayseecappo made it 2-0 when a shot from Rookes got through and hit Aidan Herring’s stick to get it past Chris Quizi.
The Pistons got one back though when on a man advantage, just seconds into it, Liam Doyle was able to slide it past the glove of Jase Wareham to make it 2-1 heading into the second period.
In the second period, the only goal was scored by Rory Gilmour with a powerplay goal at the 14:01 mark.
In the third, the Pistons got out in front with a goal by Jack Greenwell at the 7:57 mark of the period, crashing the net to get the rebound.
Greenwell scored again just minutes later, shorthanded, when he was to rip the puck off a defencemen and beat Wareham on the breakaway.
The Wolverines got within one when Ben Roulette was able to capitalize on a generous bounce off the boards, giving him his fourth of the season.
But the Pistons put it away with an empty net goal by Marek Miller with 46 seconds left in the game.
The shots were pretty even throughout the game until the third when the Pistons outshot the Wolverines 12-7.
The Wolverines will now head to Winnipeg to take on the Monarchs on Saturday night.
