RECAP: Offence sputters as Steelers beat Wolverines

Goal scoring was again an issue for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines lost 3-1 to the Selkirk Steelers.

A second period goal by Brock Behrend was all that the Wolverines could generate, as for the second time in three games, the Wolverines lost a game after being tied heading into the third period.

Selkirk started the scoring with a shorthanded goal by Owen Branson at the 14:39 mark.

Behrend tied it in the second with a breakaway pass from Deegan Wapass, halfway through the period.

But after going into the period tied, the Steelers gave themselves a go ahead goal from Remy Hlady who was able to tip in a point shot five minutes into the period.

The Steelers put it away with a goal from Landon Jamieson who slid it under the glove of Wareham after sneaking past the defence.

Both teams finished the game with no powerplay goals, even though they weren’t short of chances. The Wolverines were 0/6, while the Steelers were 0/5.

Jase Wareham had the 22 saves in the game, while Noel Olsonawski stopped 26 shots in the win.

The Wolverines will take on the Steelers once again, when they head to Selkirk on Friday for the start of a road trip for the weekend.
