RECAP: Nighthawks stun Wolverines with third period comeback

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines were 14 minutes away from completing a sweep against one of the best teams in the league, but after a disastrous third period, they weren’t even able to get a point after they fell 5-4 to the Niverville Nighthawks.

The Nighthawks scored four goals in the last 14 minutes to come back from a 4-1 deficit to win 5-4 win regulation, thanks to two powerplay goals on a five minute powerplay.

The Wolverines were up 4-1 after the second after goals by Sebastian Hicks, Reegan Kominko, Cole Hunter and Deegan Wapass. Niverville countered with a goal by Jase Konecsni.

But the Nighthawks came back scoring a couple in the first half of the period, with Merik Boles and Aiden Corbett making it a one goal game.

The Wolverines got a five minute penalty when Jaxon Grosdidier got a major of boarding with 6:26 left to go in regulation.

Then the Nighthawks got two with the man advantage, as Luke Wagner tied it up quickly, and Adam Vigfusson was able to bank one off of Jase Wareham to give the Nighthawks their first lead of the two game series.

The Wolverines weren’t able to tie it up late, and the Nighthawks escaped with a win.

Waywayseecappo will still stay in a playoff spot during the break, thanks to a Virden Oil Capitals loss on Friday night. They will next play in Swan Valley on January 3rd to return from the break.
