RECAP: Nighthawks beat Wolverines 6-2

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines outshot the top team in the MJHL, but still ended up losing 6-2 in Niverville.

Mostly controlling play, the Wolverines just couldn’t answer on most of their opportunities, while the Nighthawks could, scoring six on 22 shots.

The Nighthawks got the scoring started just 6:18 into the game when Merik Boles, was able to put in the loose puck after Hayden Wheddon created the chance by skating all in on Mariko Bercier.

Parker Rolston did the same thing but was able to pass it off to Calyb Moore for an easy goal for the Nighthawks to make it 2-0.

John Scott scored a wrap around goal with 2:22 left in the period to make it 3-0, but the Wolverines got back within two when Kurt Rookes banked it in on the powerplay.

In the second period, the Nighthawks got back to a three goal lead after Scott’s second of the game off a slap shot.

But the Wolverines got back within two when Ben Roulette capitalized on a 2-on-1 with Sebastien Hicks to make it 4-2.

In the third, Niverville put the game away with two powerplay goals, as Kole Mears and Hayden Wheddon scored 2:40 apart in the last half of the third period.

Nighthawks goalie Austin Dubinsky stopped 39 of 41 shots, while Bercier stopped 16 in the loss.

The two teams will play again on Tuesday in Waywayseecappo at 7:30pm.
