RECAP: Late Steelers goal leads to Wolverines loss

A back and forth game ended with the Selkirk Steelers beating the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 5-2 on Friday night.

With the game tied in the final minutes, the Steelers were able to score late to give the Wolverines their 8th loss of the season.

The Steelers got on the board first with a powerplay goal when Landon Pue was able to hammer in a rebound.

Selkirk got up by two when Rohan Guevarra scored his 7th of the season after shooting it off a Wolverines defenceman.

But the Wolverines got within one in the final minute of the period when Cole Hunter deked around the whole Selkirk team, leaving the puck for an easy tap-in by Max Collyer.

In the second period, the Wolverines tied it up when Dylan Duzan was given a full ice pass from Jake Nelson and he was able to roof it upstairs.

The game was still tied for most of the third period until Evan Mayer was able to get a loose puck and put it in an empty net to make it 3-2 with 5:42 left to go in the game.

After a delay of game penalty to the Wolverines, the Steelers iced the game when Owen Branson went top shelf with a back handed shot to make it 4-2.

A Steelers empty net goal made it 5-2.

The Wolverines outshot Selkirk 33-30, including having a very controlling 13-4 second period shot advantage.

The Wolverines will next take on the Portage Terriers in Portage on Sunday at 6:30pm.
