RECAP: Late goal gives Wolverines comeback win

The Wolverines jumped up into fourth place in the West Division after a 4-2 come from behind victory over the Virden Oil Capitals on Tuesday night.

Rhett Perrin scored two goals and Mariko Bercier stopped 37 shots to help the Wolverines to their second victory over Virden this year.

The Wolverines came back twice in the game, and then scored three goals in the third period.

The Oil Capitals started the scoring when Brett Sabel got his ninth of the season, 6:17 into the period.

In the second period, Perrin scored his first goal, 1:42 into the period.

But Virden retook the lead before the end of the frame, when Adler Johnston got his seventh of the year in a wide open net.

In the third, the Wolverines tied it up at two when Lucas Perry blasted one past Loic Morin five minutes into the period.

When just over four minutes left in the third, an Aidan Herring shot bounced off Perrin’s skates and went five ho,e through Morin to make it 3-2 for the Wolverines.

Griffin Ayotte added an empty net goal to make it 4-2.

The Wolverines were unable to score on their one powerplay chance, but killed off five penalties in the game.

With the win, the Wolverines move to 32 points on the year, two up on Virden for the final playoff spot in the West. The Oil Capitals have one game in hand.
