The Dauphin Kings got out to an early series lead with a 4-1 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Friday night.
Three goals in the third period got the Kings the victory after the game was tied after the first and second period.
After a scoreless first period where both teams were feeling each other out, the Wolverines got the scoring started when Sebastian Stone finished on a 2-on-1 to make it 1-0 Wolverines.
But the Kings tied it up within three minutes when Ty Pratte’s point shot beat Mariko Bercier to tie the game up at 1.
Dauphin took their first lead of the game 6:35 into the third period from Gavin Nemis beating the defence and Bercier over the glove.
Just 1:24 after the goal, Sheldon Shyiak gave the Kings a 3-1 lead after tipping in a Matthew Thomas point shot.
The game was a two goal game the rest of the way until Ethan Stewart put the finishing touches on the game with an empty net goal.
The Kings outshot the Wolverines 32-21 in the game, but really only dominated in the first period with a 14-4 advantage.
The Wolverines were perfect on the penalty kill, but failed to do anything on the powerplay, going 0/4.
The two teams will meet on Sunday night at 7:30pm, for Game 2 in Waywayseecappo.
